    How to move to Italy

Hi!

I'm a Russian girl who wants to go to Italy and probably to stay there.

I didn't decide yet what Italian city I should go to and what I will do there. That's why I ask everyone who can advice me something on this matter to give his advice.

Do you know any Russians who live in Italy? Can you tell me how they live, what they are doing there, where they work etc.? Do you know any Italian web sites where I could find announcements on job in Italy for foreigners? If you can tell me about these or other referring matters, please do it. Your advices are highly appreciated. Ciao!

I met some Italians recently (I have never met any in person before) and found that they differ sharply from Russians (or Russians differ from them). They have different manners, different habits, different points of view… …they have another mentality in one word… So now I don’t think it would be easy for me to live among such different nation as Italians. Perhaps the best choice is to live in Russia and visit Italy time to time...

Thank you for the link Gius. I was there and even found some vacancies in English. They were posted by Dutch company :-) Now I’m thinking about other countries. I don’t know whether Netherlands would be good for me. It is not so warm there like in Italy. Also they speak their strange Dutch language… Perhaps I will post my CV on Monster and other job sites and will wait till an employer find me.

Yes, as far as I know there are many Italian companies interested in this kind of positions but the knowledge of the Italian language is always a pre-requisite (well, the fact that the adv. is written just in Italian is already meaningful). Just to have an idea you could give a look to the following web-site ( http://www.monster.it/ ). This is the Italian version of a well-known internationatonal career network for qualified jobs. Including "Russian or russo or russa" as keywords you should be able to find something. If the knowledge of the Italian language is not essential (..very difficult!) they will post an advice in English. Good luck!

Thank you for your advice Gius. Regarding my qualification I work as an export sales manager in Russian company. We manufacture and sale our products in many countries all over the world. As a regional sales manager I deal with East-European countries, Italy, Turkey, Greece and others. I know that many Italian companies sell or would like to sell their products abroad so I thought I could work as an export sales manager also in Italy. I even found one vacancy of an Italian company. It was in Italian and I understood just general meaning of it that they need a sales manager for selling in East-European countries and Russia. The main problem is that I don’t speak Italian. I suppose I could learn it in half a year if I live in Italy but I don’t think any company would wait for this time.

Hi Anastacia, yes the russian Embassy in italy is definitely the best place where to look for. Also the following web-site (http://www.italiarussia.net/disc4_frm.htm) can be useful for you in order to get in touch with other Russian people living in Italy (even if there there are a lot of junk messages). About the work...of course it's not easy and it depends a lot from your qualifications. [br][edited by Gius on 2005-04-06 20:56:07]

I'm thinking of a working program called 'Leonardo', it's the same as Erasmus but for workers... when i was in Barcelona, i've met many Italians, being part of this program, i think it's European!

Clarabesque, I don’t think I can join to a working or studying program because I was graduated almost 3 years ago and I work now. Perhaps I will go to Italy on my annual holidays for rest and acquaintance with the country. If I finally decide to move to Italy I would have to leave everything there.

Mle, I came to the conclusion that even if I won’t move to Italy my wish to go there will be good for me. Even now my dream of Italy warms me up when it’s cold and snowing here in Moscow. I was born in a warm country. So it’s difficult for me to live in such cold climate and to bear the winter for half a year. I look at the gray Moscow streets with gray snow and imagine colorful streets of Rome and bright Italian sun, and I get better.[br][edited by Anastasia_L on 2005-03-30 09:19:56]

To move to a country is always a big decision , it has to be taken seriously... i've moved to barcelona for 6 months, it was good for me to learn the language, but it has been some bad times, too. You just have to remember you'll be far from everyone you know, from all the places you know... it takes a while to be adjusted! An argentinian friend of mine is moving to France, i think it's good for him because he knows me , and i can help him for many things , he will be less lost in here, so i think if you know someone there to help you it's better. But i'm french so i can't tell you more about it... anyway good luck, it's not always easy! ps: how long do you plan to stay there? You can also choose to be part of a working or studying program.

I wish I could recommend another country to you, Anastasia, but I'm an American and my knowledge is probably more limited than yours. Were I to move, I would probably choose Italy, but my husband was born there so it would be easier for us. I wish you luck.

Thank you, Mle. I still have many doubts whether I should move to Italy. I found that it would be difficult to find a job there. I don’t want to be a nurse or babysitter. Also I will have to live somewhere. So it’s still a big question. Maybe you can recommend me another European country for movement?

You may want to visit [contact me: mle] This is a website (that includes a message board) for foreigners living in Italy or those who want to move to Italy. Although most of the posters are American or English, they welcome members from all over the world. They generously share their experiences and answer questions from people seeking the "Italian experience". I must warn you, though. The paperwork involved in such a move is extensive, and jobs are extremely difficult to obtain, particularly for foreigners. In boca al lupo! (Good luck!)

Grazie, Elvendil! I will visit the site of the Russian embassy in Italy. But I'd also like to know how Russians live in Italy, to know some stories about their life... So I could decide what I would do there ;-) I still didn't take a decision if I really should go to Italy. I read some books about Italy and think I would like it but I'm not sure I can live there. That's why I asked for advice. Ciao!

Hi! You'd better ask for all the information you need to the russian embassy in Italy, I've done the same thing as I was looking for some information about Finland! The embassy web Site is www.ambrussia.it . A presto! Ciao!!!
