    Greeting in your language

Greeting is the first thing one does when meeting any person. It is therefore only natural to first learn to greet when learning a new language.

What is the common expressions used to greet in your lanuage?

In Venda (one of 11 South African official languages) it is as follows:

Hello! - Aa! (if the person saying the words is a woman)

Hello! - Nda! (if the person saying the words is a man)

How are you?  - No vuwa hani? (male and female)

Fine! - Zwavhudi (male and female)

How do you greet someone in your language?

If you ever visit (and you should because it's a beautiful country..) Hungary, here are some useful things:

Hello - Szia!
Good morning! - Jó reggelt!
Good afternoon! - Jó napot! (It actually means: good day)
Good evening! - Jó estét!

How are you? - Hogy vagy?
Fine thanks. - Köszönöm jól.

"gy" and "sz" represent single sounds in hungarian. "gy" sounds something like when British people pronunce the first sound of the word "duty".
"sz" is pronunced like the English s
but in Hungarian "s" is pronunced like the begininng of the word "shop"

If you want to know more don't hesitate to write to me :)

In Czech you can say
Hello - Ahoj
Good morning - Dobré ráno
Good afternoon - Dobrý den
Good evening - Dobrý več er
How are you? - Jak se máš ?
I'm fine thanks - Dobř e, dě kuju.
I hope that the letters with diacritics display correctly. In Czech, diacritics (acute accent for lengthening a vowel and caron for 'softening' a consonant) can change meaning of a word.
(Greeting is the first thing one does when speaking, indeed, but in my experience people also frequently ask how does one say 'I love you' and 'Kiss my a--'. -)
