Do people in your country learn foreign languages? Hi there!I'm Greek and I was wondering how often people learn other languages in your country.Do you have a high national learning rate?In Greece most people, and especially children are almost forced to acquire at least one foreign language. The main reason for that of course is the fact that Greek is not a widespread and commonly used language,so communication with other nations is mainly achieved through acquiring a new language. The most common languages learnt here are:English,German,French and Italian.

Hello,
well in Germany it is also common that children have to learn english in school for at least 6 years. After that it is possible to quit it. From now on there are also little classes in kindergarten.
They have as well the opportunity of learning other languages as french, spanish, dutch, italian and even some other languages.

hi! a lot of people in russia don't speak any foreign language. though almost all children study 2 or more languages besides russian (english and german or french) at school. but most of business people in our country speak english quite good, and now more and more students want to study several languages cause there is much more opportunities to travel around the world nowadays. for example, spanish and chinese are very popular.

Hey there!
i'm from Brazil, and in spite of being a country in "development" with high rates of iliteracy,
all children who study in a private school, they learn english since 13 or 14 years old, sometimes even
earlier. Spanish is also very popular. Basically these two languages but we also have a large amount of
german courses, french and italian.

In New Zealand it really depends on your ethnicity. For most people, Maori was compulsary through Primary School, but my teachers were really bad so I forgot it quickly. All the other languages were optional but we could only choose from Japanese, French, Spanish or Maori (you only ever really chose Maori if you obviously had Maori blood, at my school).
There's lots of foreigners here, so English is the second (or third) language that they learn. My friend who is Chinese spoke Cantonese first, but had to learn Chinese Mandarin and English as well. And then at High School she also learnt Japanese and French!
Depends on your ethnicity over here :/
