Do i have to learn the haragana alphabet first?

Do i have to learn the haragana alphabet first? I'm finding it pretty hard to remember the japanese characters with their sounds. On average, how long does it take to learn the haragana alphabet? if you could help me learn japanese please send me a message or comment. Thanks =]

I learn Japanese too now. But i found learning hiragana and katakana is quite interesting. Become understand what we used to be blank about, is a nice nice nice moment.
I try to memorize hiragana everyday. I force myself to never write down japanese words by latin alphabet, but with hiragana and katakana. But of course it's a bit hard to memorize katakana coz it is not frequently use.
Make a goal of it. I mean if u really interested on it then make a goal. I like to see Kanji and to understand it certainly i have to learn the basic first.
Let's trough it all with fun, and u'll find it amazing moment.

I think it's important to learn haragana alphabet first. Yes, it's will take a little more time then other to progress at the begin but you'll be the one who's going to win the race

Don't give up! learning haragana alphabet is fun. When a teacher is boring, I'm praticing in class... Maybe I'm not a good example after all... :P

I've bought Instant Immersion Japanese v2.0'. Even if a some of the  cd aren't really useful, the cd 'Human Japanese' show you step by step how to learn and how to draw haragana. It was really helpful to see how to draw haragana and to have explanations about 'hane'. If you find another tool like this, it's should be easier to learn.

It's a good question and I know this is hard but we will make it

I'm sure hiragana and katakana letters(symbols) are very new and hard to remember for other language speakers.

But if you really want to learn Japanese, you must learn very basic hiragana and katakana first.

In Japanese, all of sentences are written in hiragana, katakana and even kanji(hanzi:loaned characters from Chinese).

So, please don't give up and learn hiragana step by step, day by day!!! OK?

You should ask yourself how dedicated you are if you avoid learning those 46-ish little characters, that will not only help you with your pronounciation, but will also help you understand  japanese word-construction in general.
There's tons of learning material you will have to skip out on if you're not used to hiragana.
The kana really aren't that hard compared to the kanji.

Yes, you have to. It shouldn't take long. There are only 50 kanas.

well, why do you learn japanese?

because HIRAGANA and KATAKANA are really easy to be learnt.

if you don't want to learn it, don't think about learning japanese ( KANJI)

good luck for next
