Transportation is a crucial aspect of our daily lives. It allows us to get to work, school, or travel long distances. In this lesson, we will learn how to name and describe the most common means of transportation in Persian, including vehicles, public transport, and traveling on foot.

Common vehicles

Let's start with the most common vehicles Iranians use for transportation:

Iranian Persian Pronunciation English

دوچرخه dorḵe /dutʃærxe/ Bicycle
اتوبوس otobus /otobus/ Bus
تاکسی taxi /tæksi/ Taxi
  • Note that in Persian, we also use the word ماشین (mashin) to refer to a car, which is a loanword from French.

  • Train - قطار (ghatār) - Iran has a well-developed railway network which connects major cities and towns.
