At the Market
At the Serbian market, you will find a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other groceries. Here are some of the most common products and their Serbian translations:

pomorandža | pomorandzha | orange |
limun | leemoon | lemon |
breskva | breshkva | peach |
šljiva | shleeva | plum |
grožđe | grozhdye | grapes |
In addition to the fruits listed above, there are several types of vegetables commonly sold at Serbian markets, such as:
- paradajz (tomatoes)
- krastavac (cucumber)
- paprika (pepper)
- luk (onion)
- krompir (potato)
To ask for these products, you can use the following phrases:
- Dajte mi jednu jabuku. (Give me one apple.)
- Koliko košta kilogram paradajza? (How much does a kilogram of tomatoes cost?)
- Hoću kilogram krompira, molim vas. (I want a kilogram of potatoes, please.)
And to make sure you are buying fresh produce, you can ask:
- Da li su ovi proizvodi sveži? (Are these products fresh?)
- Kada su pristigli ovi proizvodi na pijacu? (When did these products arrive at the market?)
At the market, you can also find other groceries, such as meat, cheese, honey, and spices. Here are some useful words to help you shop for other products:
Serbian | Pronunciation | English Translation |
---|---|---|
meso | mehso | meat |
sir | seer | cheese |
med | med | honey |
so | so | salt |
biber | bebeer | pepper |
To ask for other groceries in Serbian, you can use phrases such as:
- Hoću 100 grama šunke. (I want 100 grams of ham.)
- Da li imate sveži sir? (Do you have fresh cheese?)
- Koliko košta tegla meda? (How much does a jar of honey cost?)
Congratulations, you have learned some basic Serbian vocabulary for shopping at the market! Now it's time to practice and put your new skills to use.
