Language/Welsh/Grammar/Future-Tense
Hi Welsh learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the Welsh future tense. We will look at how to form it and when to use it.
The Welsh future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future. It is formed by adding the ending -af to the verb stem. The verb stem is the part of the verb that remains after removing the ending. For example, the verb stem of gwneud (to do) is gwne-.
The future tense can also be formed with the verb bod (to be). To form the future tense of bod, you add the ending -f i. For example:
- Byddaf - I will be
- Byddi - You will be
- Bydd - He/she/it will be
- Byddwn - We will be
- Byddwch - You will be
- Byddant - They will be
The future tense can also be used to talk about assumptions or predictions. For example:
- Bydd y tywydd yn braf heddiw - The weather will be nice today
- Bydd y plant yn hwylio - The children will have fun
The future tense can also be used to talk about intentions. For example:
- Byddaf yn mynd i'r sinema nos Wener - I will go to the cinema on Friday night
- Byddwn yn dysgu Cymraeg - We will learn Welsh
