Northern Kurdish Grammar → Pronouns → Personal Pronouns

Introduction

In this lesson, you will learn about personal pronouns in Northern Kurdish. Pronouns are important because they help to avoid repetition of the same noun in a sentence. Personal pronouns also indicate the gender and number of the person or persons referred to, as well as the grammatical case.

Personal Pronouns

Below is a list of the personal pronouns in Northern Kurdish:

Northern Kurdish Pronunciation English
min [mɪn] I
tu [tu] you (singular)
ew [ɛw] he/she/it
em [ɛm] we
hûn [huːn] you (plural)
ewên [ɛwɛːn] they

Note that there are separate forms for the second person singular (tu) and the second person plural (hûn) in Northern Kurdish.

Verb Conjugation with Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns are used as the subject of the sentence and are conjugated with the verb. Below are some examples of how each personal pronoun is used in Northern Kurdish:

  • Min diçim (I go)
  • Tu diçî (You go)
  • Ew diçe (He/she/it goes)
  • Em diçin (We go)
  • Hûn diçin (You (plural) go)

Conclusion

Personal pronouns are a crucial part of Northern Kurdish grammar. Once you have mastered them, you will be able to communicate more effectively in Northern Kurdish and avoid repetition of the same noun in a sentence.
