What is "Have" in Nepali (individual language)[edit | edit source]

"Have" is a verb that is primarily used to express possession or the presence of certain qualities in a subject. In Nepali (individual language), "have" is usually translated as "chha" or "cha" depending on the context. For example:

  • "मेरो घरमा चारजना छन्।" (mero ghar-ma chaar-jana chhan) means "There are four people at my home".
  • "तपाईंको ज्वाईंति लामो छ।" (tapaa'iiNko jwaa'iNTi laamo chha) means "Your hair is long".
  • "मेरो मोबाइल फोन छैन।" (mero mobile phon chhain) means "I don't have a mobile phone".

In some cases, "have" can also be used to form perfect tenses in Nepali (individual language) grammar, which we will discuss in detail later in this lesson.

Using "Have" in Possession Sentences[edit | edit source]

One of the most common uses of "have" is to express possession of something. In Nepali (individual language), "have" is usually translated as "chha" or "cha" depending on the context. To form possession sentences using "have" in Nepali (individual language), we follow the structure below:

SUBJECT + "को" + OBJECT + "छ" / "छन"

Here "को" (ko) is a particle that signifies possession, and "छ" (chha) or "छन" (chhan) indicate the presence of possession. Let's look at some examples below:

Nepali (individual language) Pronunciation English
तपाईंको नाम के हो? taPaa'iiN-ko naam ke ho? What is your name?
मेरो नाम सन्दीप हो। mero naam sandiip ho. My name is Sandeep.

मेरो घरमा एक कुत्ता छ। mero ghar-ma ek kutt-aa cha. There is a dog at my home.
मेरो मोबाइल फोन छैन। mero mobile phon chhain. I don't have a mobile phone.

Using "Have" to Form Perfect Tenses[edit | edit source]

In Nepali (individual language) grammar, "have" can also be used to form perfect tenses. A perfect tense is a grammatical construction that indicates that an action or situation occurred before and continues up to the present moment or has just been completed. To form perfect tenses using "have" in Nepali (individual language), we follow the structure below:

SUBJECT + OBJECT + "लाई" + HELPING VERB + "छ" / "छन"

Here, "लाई" (laai) is a particle that signifies the object of the sentence, and "छ" (chha) or "छन" (chhan) indicate the presence of the helping verb. Let's look at some examples below:

Nepali (individual language) Pronunciation English
