Basic Education[edit | edit source]
In Thailand, the government provides free basic education for 12 years. The basic education program is divided into two parts: 6 years of primary school (ประถมศึกษา, bprà-tôm-sèu-kà-sàt), followed by 6 years of secondary school (มัธยมศึกษา, mát-tá-yóm-sèu-kà-sàt).
Primary School[edit | edit source]
During primary school, students are taught subjects such as Thai (the Thai language), mathematics, science, social studies, health (ปกส. or ประวัติศาสตร์, pak-sa or bprà-wàt-sàt), and foreign language (usually English).

Secondary School[edit | edit source]
In secondary school, students continue to study the same subjects as in primary school, but the level of complexity is higher. Additionally, students can choose elective courses based on their interests and career aspirations. At the end of secondary school, students need to pass a national examination in order to get a high school diploma.

After completing secondary education, students can continue their studies by attending higher education institutes such as universities, colleges or vocational schools. In Thailand, there are both public and private higher education institutions.

- Person 2: ผมเรียนที่มหาวิทยาลัยเอเชียน (pŏm riian thîi mahaa-wít-tay-lai a-chern) (I study at ASIAN University).
- Person 1: คุณเรียนสายวิทยาศาสตร์เหรอ? (kun riian săai wi-tá-yaa-sàat rĕr?) (Are you studying science?)
- Person 2: ใช่ครับ ผมเรียน วิทยาศาสตร์ชีวภาพ (châi kráp, pŏm riian wi-tá-yaa-sàat chii-wá-phâap) (Yes, I'm studying biology).
