Hi Esperanto learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn how to express opinions in Esperanto. An opinion is a view or judgement formed about something not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. Sharing opinions is an important part of communication and an essential skill for language learners. You will also learn some cultural information and interesting facts about Esperanto. So let's get started!

Expressing Opinion[edit | edit source]

In Esperanto, there are different ways to express opinions. One common way is by using the verb "opini" which means "to think" or "to believe". For example:

Esperanto Pronunciation English
Mi opinias ke Esperanto estas facila lingvo. mee oh-pee-nee-us keh Esperanto eh-stas fah-tsee-la ling-vo I think Esperanto is an easy language.

Another way to express opinions is by using adjectives, adverbs, or phrases that show a subjective point of view. For example:

Esperanto Pronunciation English
La filmaĵo estis terure ennua. lah feel-mah-jo eh-stis teh-roo-reh en-nu-ah The film was terribly boring.
Mi trovas tiun manĝaĵon delikatan. mee troh-vas tee-oon man-jah-zhon deh-lee-ka-tahn I find this food delicious.
Li estas respondeca pri la malhelpo. lee eh-stas res-pon-deh-tsa pree lah mal-helpo He is responsible for the obstacle.

You can also use phrases to indicate how certain you are about your opinion. For example:

Esperanto Pronunciation English
Laŭ mia sperto, tion mi certe scias. lahw mee-ah sper-to, tee-on mee tser-teh stsee-ahs From my experience, I definitely know that.
Verŝajne, tio ne estos facile por li. ver-shahy-neh, tee-oh neh eh-stos fah-tsee-leh por lee Probably, it won't be easy for him.

Remember that opinions are subjective and may vary from person to person. It's important to express them politely and respectfully. If you are not sure how to express your opinion, you can always ask for someone else's by using phrases such as "Kion vi opinias?" (What do you think?), "Kiel vi vidas tion?" (How do you see that?), or "Ĉu vi konsentas kun mi?" (Do you agree with me?).

Interesting Facts[edit | edit source]

- Esperanto was created in 1887 by Ludovik Lazarus Zamenhof, a Polish-Jewish ophthalmologist. He wanted to create a language that could serve as a universal second language and promote world peace. The name "Esperanto" means "one who hopes" in the language itself. - Esperanto is the most widely spoken constructed language in the world, with approximately two million speakers worldwide. It is used in literature, music, films, and social media. - The Esperanto flag consists of a green field with a white eight-pointed star in the center. The star represents the five continents of the world united by a common language. - The largest Esperanto event in the world is the Universala Kongreso, or Universal Congress. It takes place every year in a different country and attracts Esperanto speakers from all over the world.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Person 1: Ĉu vi ŝatas la muzikon de Beethoven? (Do you like Beethoven's music?) Person 2: Mi opinias ke li estis genia komponisto. (I think he was a brilliant composer.) Person 1: Sed mi trovas liajn muzikojn maltrankvilaj. (But I find his music restless.) Person 2: Verŝajne tio dependas de via gusto. (Probably it depends on your taste.)
