Let's start with the names of different countries and continents in Hausa. Knowing these words is essential when talking about different parts of the world.

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: Wannan farko ne na goge da na kankara ne sosai. (This is my first time seeing a mountain and a forest together.)
  • Person 2: Shi ne babban dalilin Allah. (It's one of God's great creations.)

In order to navigate around a place, you need to know some basic directions and orientation in Hausa.

kudu /ku.du/ north
katsin hula /kat.sin hu.la/ south
kasa /ka.sa/ east
kasar lardin /ka.saɾ lar.din/ west
yamma /jʌm.ma/ up
sama /sa.ma/ down

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: Ina tunani ko na kudu ko na hula? (Am I facing north or south?)
  • Person 2: Kuda na kasa, hula na katsina. (North is to your right, south is to your left.)
