Traditional Kazakh Health Practices[edit | edit source]

Kazakhs have a long history of traditional medicine practices to maintain good health. In this section, we will learn about some of these practices.

Саумал – Saumal[edit | edit source]

Saumal is a traditional practice of transcranial electrostimulation (TCE). It is used to treat a variety of neurological and psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, migraine, and addiction. A small electrical device is attached to each temple, and a weak electrical current is passed through the brain. This practice is sometimes used in conjunction with other traditional treatments such as cupping therapy.

Тамсыз Өсу – Tamsyz Ösu[edit | edit source]

Tamsyz Ösu is a cleansing practice for the digestive system. It involves drinking copious amounts of water on an empty stomach to cleanse the body of toxins. This practice is often done in conjunction with an herbal steam bath and cupping therapy. It is said to help with digestive problems, allergies, and skin conditions.

Арқылы ауру табу — Arqyly aurý tabý[edit | edit source]

Arqyly aurý tabý is a traditional practice of treating illnesses through reflexology. The idea is that different parts of the body correspond to different organs and systems, and applying pressure to these points can stimulate healing. This practice is often done by a specialist and may involve massage or acupuncture.
