Future Tense in Tamil

Merhaba! In this lesson, you will learn about the future tense in Tamil. The future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future. It's an important tense to know in order to communicate effectively in Tamil.

Forming the Future Tense

In Tamil, the future tense is formed using the root verb and adding the suffix -க்க (kka) to the end. Here's an example:

Tamil Pronunciation North Azerbaijani
நான் உடல் எடுக்கும் nāṉ uṭal eḍukkum Men bədənimi götürəcəyəm

In the example above, the root verb is எடுக்கு (eḍukku), which means "to take". By adding the future suffix -க்க (kka), we get the future tense form எடுக்கும் (eḍukkum), which means "will take".

Using the Future Tense

Now that you know how to form the future tense, let's look at some examples of how it's used in Tamil:

  • To talk about future events: நான் நாளை சிறுகதை படிக்குவேன் (nāṉ nāḷai ciṟukathai paṭikkuvēṉ) - "I will read a short story tomorrow."
  • To make predictions: அது நல்ல பலன் பெறும் (athu nalla palan peruṃ) - "It will have a good outcome."
  • To express intentions: நான் கல்வி முறையில் பயிற்சி செய்யவும் (nāṉ kalvi muṟaiyil payiṟci seyyavum) - "I will practice for the exam."

Irregular Verbs in the Future Tense

While most verbs in Tamil follow the same pattern to form the future tense, there are some verbs that are irregular. Here are a few examples:

Tamil Pronunciation North Azerbaijani
போகும் (pōkum) pōkum gələcəyəm
வருகிறேன் (varukiṟēṉ) varukiṟēṉ gəlirəm
