Here are some basic fruits in Igbo:

ube oo-bay Pear
ọgụmefụ oh-goo-meh-foo Banana

ụmụnna oh-moo-nah Watermelon
  • Person 1: Boil pear with salt. (Pear)
  • Person 2: Nwee n'ereghe na anyị. (We have it for dinner tonight.)

Igbo-speaking people eat both indigenous and exotic fruits. Here are some exotic fruits in Igbo:

agbalumo ah-bah-loo-moh African Star Fruit
  • Person 1: Nwee nti ọnụ na-achị na agbalumo. (We bought some African star fruit.)
  • Person 2: I ga-amaka nke a? (Is it sweet?)

Have you ever heard of African mango or jocote? These fruits are not well-known outside of African and Latin American communities, respectively. Here are some lesser-known fruits in Igbo:
