Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe with a rich and complex history shaped by multiple invasions, occupations, and periods of independence and self-rule. Here are the top 30 historical dates in Ukraine's history:

9th century The first East Slavic state, Kievan Rus', is established, with Kiev as its capital and center of power
1240 The Mongols invade and conquer Kievan Rus', leading to a period of Mongol occupation and rule over the region
1362 The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, a powerful state encompassing modern-day Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine, is established, with Kiev becoming one of its major cities
1569 The Union of Lublin is signed, uniting the Grand Duchy of Lithuania with the Kingdom of Poland to form the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which includes much of modern-day Ukraine
1648 A Cossack rebellion led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky breaks out against Polish rule, leading to a period of Cossack independence and the establishment of the Ukrainian Hetmanate
1793 The partition of Poland results in much of Ukraine falling under Russian control, with the rest under Austrian and Polish rule
